In some countries, small town-centre shops are going out of business because people tend to drive to large out-of-town stores. As a result, people without cars have limited access to out-of-town stores, and it may result in an increase in the use of cars. Do you think the disadvantages of this change outweigh its advantages? (dated: March 14th, 2019)
Từ đồng nghĩa, trái nghĩa:
large out-of-town stores = wholesale stores = supermarkets in the outskirts
tend to = have tendency to = have propensity to
Real-estate prices in the outskirts are remarkably lower than in city centres; therefore, supermarkets located in the suburbs have lower operational expenses.
→ As a result, customers are provided with high quality products for more competitive price tags, thus saving money for other household costs.
A shopping trip to the outskirts could be a family bonding activity.
→ Facts indicate that people who go shopping in wholesale stores are more likely to go with at least another family member due to the fact that there are more items that need carrying.
Đoạn 2: Các cửa hàng lớn ở ngoại thành giúp giải quyết các vấn đề xã hội khác
Though fewer operational shops in business districts mean minor inconvenience for people who do not have a car, it is not the primary reason for the rising number of cars, which is indeed caused by the improved living standards.
→ In contrast, this should be considered a positive transformation as it eases traffic jam in inherently congested city centres.
When people drive outwards of the cities for shopping, they bring with them other demands including entertainment and food.
→ Consequently, this tendency contributes to the development of under-privileged areas, partly narrowing the income gap between inhabitants living in suburbs and citizens.
