          proportion = percentage = rate = portion

          old people = the senior = the elderly = elderly people  = aged citizens = retirees

Ý 1:

Compared with young people, retirees are more financially comfortable and find pleasure in voluntary work for the sake of the whole society.

→ For example, there are groups of elderly people established to provide free education for poverty-hit children or to clean the environment.

Ý 2:

The elderly are familiar with traditional culture and way of life.

→ They, hence, uphold moral values to pass on young generation, playing the key role in preservation of cultural identity, which is fading in the era of globalization.

Đoạn 2: Các vấn đề nghiêm trọng mà dân số già gây ra

Ý 1:

Old people over the age of 65 are mostly unable to keep contributing to their countries’ economic development due to their health problems; therefore, they have to live on their children or social welfare under the form of pension. It is not to mention the fact that elderly people have greater demand for health care services.

→ As a result, the increasingly high percentage of aged citizens means heavier burden on state budget, which hinders further socio-economic enhancement programs. 

Ý 2:

Aging population can also be understood as the shrinking number of young people at working age and labour shortage

→ In other words, unsustainable population structure apparently will result in more job vacancies in services, manufacturing and agriculture, eventually leading to economic stagnation.
